WorkCover WA is the government agency responsible for regulating and administrating the workers’ compensation scheme in Western Australia under the Workers’ Compensation and Injury Management Act 1981.

The scheme ensures workers who suffer a work-related injury or illness are compensated for lost earnings, medical expenses, and other associated costs, and assists injured workers to achieve a safe and sustained return to work.

If you’re engaging workers in WA, you have a legal obligation to hold a policy of workers compensation insurance. Not having a policy leaves you open to the potentially devastating costs of an uninsured claim, as well as enforcement action by WorkCover WA. Since March 2023, we’ve sent out over 35,000 letters, emails, and text messages to potential employers in industries with the highest levels of enforcement action. As a result, 696 employers have taken out workers compensation insurance policies so far, covering 4336 workers. And that’s just one small part of our voluntary compliance activities. We’re continuing to explore innovative ways to reach and educate our stakeholders so every worker in WA is covered in the event of a workplace injury or illness.
