Review of the Workers’ Compensation and Injury Management Act 1981: Final Report

The Hon Michael Mischin MLC, Attorney General; Minister for Commerce, has tabled in Parliament WorkCover WA’s Review of the Workers’ Compensation and Injury Management Act 1981: Final Report.

In 2010 the Government approved a two stage legislative review process. Stage one of the review has been completed with the passage of amendments to the Act in 2011. The second stage is to develop a new workers’ compensation statute.

WorkCover WA has been progressing stage two of the review and its final report contains 171 recommendations for inclusion in the new statute.

Since an earlier discussion paper was released in October 2013 WorkCover WA has undertaken a consultative approach in finalising its recommendations. This has included review of 66 submissions and ongoing consultation with many of the representative groups and individuals with an interest in improving the workers’ compensation legislation.

The Minister announced the release of the Report will be followed by a one month consultation period with stakeholders, with submissions closing on 31 July 2014.  The consultation process will be managed by WorkCover WA.

A copy of the Final Report and information on the consultation process can be accessed via the Legislative Amendment and Review page.
