PIEF’s Motivational Interactions Workshop 29-30 August 2013
This year, the Personal Injury Education Foundation (PIEF) has joined with AP Psychology & Consulting Services to deliver a series of workshops across Australia on Motivational Interactions. Motivational Interactions is an evidence based approach that provides the skills to work with your injured clients to:
- identify their barriers to change; and
- develop strategies for them to change.
Motivational Interactions is widely recognised as an important engagement strategy for people working in a case management capacity and will help you develop the necessary skills to effectively work with injured clients to help facilitate positive return to work and life outcomes.
The workshops will be facilitated by registered psychologist Arthur Papagiannis, who has extensive experience in developing psychological workplace solutions for organisations. As the managing director of AP Psychology & Consulting Services, Arthur has established a niche offering by bringing the worlds of clinical and organisation psychology concepts together.
The TAC experience with Motivational Interactions
The Victorian Transport Accident Commission recently rolled out Motivational Interactions training to approximately 100 of its staff and as a result has seen a significant increase in their client satisfaction scores and return to work outcomes.
Client satisfaction | In the Return to Work teams where Motivational Interactions was rolled out, the overall client satisfaction with TAC was 6.31 out of 10 (in 2011) prior to the training and 7.03 (in 2012) post the training. This year’s result will be known soon, however it is believed to be much higher again. |
RTW outcomes | In 2012/13 TAC achieved a full RTW outcome in 68.7% of clients cases compared to a target of 60%. This percentage result is significant when you bear in mind the TAC context of multi-trauma injuries and higher injury severity than a workers’ compensation setting. |
