Free seminars for Pilbara employers will spearhead WorkCover WA’s visit to the region in September.
From Monday 27 October to Wednesday 5 November, 2008, two of our representatives will be in various towns to help local stakeholders understand their obligations in the workers’ compensation, injury management and return to work processes.
Employers are invited to take advantage of free workers’ compensation and injury management information sessions held at 10am and 5pm each day in the following towns:
- Karratha: Wednesday 29 October 2008
- Port Hedland: Friday 31 October 2008
- Tom Price: Monday 3 November 2008
- Newman: Wednesday 5 November 2008.
The sessions include a presentation, followed by question and answer time, covering:
- the need to have a current workers' compensation insurance policy and injury management plan, and
- the importance for employers to support their workers when a workplace injury occurs.
In 2006/07, 1,645 injuries and diseases resulted in workers’ compensation claims in the Pilbara region. The top three industries in the region most commonly associated wth a workers' compensation claim was mining (43.9%), followed by construction (22.5%) and property and business services (8.2%).
WorkCover WA representatives are available to meet any local businesses or their staff to discuss any queries or concerns. Workers, general practitioners and other interested stakeholders can also gain advice from WorkCover WA on any specific issues they have in the processes.
