The weekly compensation rate for jockeys under the Workers’ Compensation and Injury Management Act 1981 (the WCIM Act) is linked to the award rate for stable foremen under the Horse Training Industry Award 1976, which is currently $663.60.

The WA Jockeys Association (WAJA) is seeking an amendment to the WCIM Act to align the rate of weekly compensation paid to jockeys with their pre-injury earnings.

A Consultation Regulatory Impact Statement (PDF - 220kb) has been developed to gather views from affected stakeholders on the options and likely impacts of any change in the methodology for determining jockey’s weekly compensation payments.
