Exercise physiology will be recognised as an “approved treatment” under the Workers’ Compensation and Injury Management Act 1981 (the Act) from Thursday, 18 December 2008.

The definition of “exercise physiologist” to be inserted into the Workers’ Compensation and Injury Management Regulations 1982 will require exercise physiologists to demonstrate current accreditation through the Australian Association for Exercise and Sports Science in order to be recognised for the purposes of the Act.

A new fee schedule for exercise physiologists will be inserted into the Workers’ Compensation and Injury Management (Scales of Fees) Regulations 1998 (Schedule 5A – Scales of fees Exercise Physiologists) and will take effect from Thursday, 18 December 2008.
