We are delighted to advise that the PowerPoint Presentations from the WorkCover WA Injury Management Conference are now available on the Conference Website. To view these presentations visit www.imcwa2007.com.au

To further enhance learning outcomes from the Injury Management Conference the website will remain live until October 2008.

WorkCover WA would like to thank eveyone who participated at the Injury Management Conference and ensured its success.

Below are just some of the many comments from delegates who attended WorkCover WA’s major state injury management conference on 16 and 17 October, which has also been labelled significant, insightful and dynamic.

The best conference of this kind I’ve ever attended,” Lyn Brody, Alcoa

The speakers were extremely relevant,” Susan Lewis, QBE

The quality of presentations was excellent,” Alan Hawes, MercyCare

I’ve been really very impressed,” Dr Katrina Powers, Health Services Australia

Opened by the Hon Michelle Roberts, MLA, Minister for Employment Protection, initial feedback from the two day conference indicates that it succeeded in informing and educating attendees from a range of professional backgrounds about best-practice injury management.

Featuring a host of international, national and Western Australian speakers, the Working together…a better future conference attracted more than 300 delegates who heard speakers examine numerous areas of the workers’ compensation and injury management system.

“This conference has achieved a great deal and I would like to thank all the invited speakers for sharing their invaluable knowledge, and also to the WorkCover WA team who helped to make this event such a success,” says Mr. Adrian Warner, CEO of WorkCover WA.

“As a result of this conference workers' compensation and injury management professionals have been challenged to expand their industry knowledge.”

“They have also witnessed the value of sharing information first hand in this highly complex area, as well as increasing their understanding of best practice injury management processes and return to work strategies.”

During the two day event, speakers raised awareness of the enormous social and economic costs and implications involved with workplace injury, with an overriding theme on helping to facilitate the best possible outcomes for injured workers.

More than a dozen international, national and local speakers imparted a wealth of knowledge, including how an organisation’s culture and leadership styles impact on return-to-work outcomes, how needs of baby boomers in addition to Generations X and Y can be accommodated in the workplace, the impact of IT usage on younger workers’ physical abilities and how the Accident Compensation Corporation in New Zealand is developing partnerships to achieve early and durable return to work outcomes across the whole country

Delegates also heard from numerous medical and legal professionals who offered practical advice and a variety of perspectives including the impact of legislated stress exclusions in the different jurisdictions and what is really needed for effective pain management as opposed to pain treatment

“WorkCover WA believes that knowledge and information sharing will foster a positive, forward thinking environment which is especially important in the area of injury management,” adds Mr Warner.

“I believe we can say this conference has achieved its objectives and that delegates have been provided with important knowledge which they can use to improve outcomes for people injured on the job, which benefits both the employer and worker.”
