Guiding medical specialists in their impairment assessments

WorkCover WA today released the third edition of the Guides for the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, which details the procedures for evaluating permanent impairment for workers’ compensation purposes in Western Australia.

The WorkCover WA Guides for The Evaluation of Permanent Impairment  (known as the WorkCover WA Guides) and the accompanying Guidance Notes and Fact Sheet outlining the changes from the second to the third edition are now available to download from the website.

The third edition of the WorkCover WA Guides includes:

·         New information regarding conditions affecting the elbow and forearm, and

·         Additional information regarding deductions for pre-existing conditions

There are also new information tables for:

o   Evaluation of minor skin impairments

o   Criteria for rating  miscellaneous peripheral nerves

o   Assessment for ankylosis of the ankle in variation from the optimum position

o   Impairment for loss of the tibia-os calcis angle

WorkCover WA  will be coordinating refresher training sessions for AMSs in November and December to provide an update on key changes in the third edition.
