Is it compulsory for me to institute a return to work program when an injury occurs at my workplace?

Yes. Provisions for the establishment, content and implementation of return to work programs are set out in the Code. Where the Code states that an employer “has to” do something that relates to a return to work program, it is mandatory.

The Code of Practice (Injury Management), the supporting Guidance Notes, and WorkCover WA’s template for an injury management system are available free of charge from by clicking here or by contacting WorkCover WA’s Advisory Services on 1300 794 744.
