A return to work program is a formal program developed as part of an injury management system. A return to work program may be required for an injured worker to help them remain at work or return to appropriate duties.
As an employer, you need to develop a return to work program with an injured worker in consultation with the worker’s treating medical practitioner.
Provisions for the establishment, content and implementation of return to work programs are set out in the Code. Where the Code states that an employer “has to” do something that relates to a return to work program, it is mandatory.
A template for a return to work program is accessible here to assist employers to comply with the Code.
