WorkCover WA is increasing its client focus through a coordinated and systematic process of stakeholder engagement and participation.
We are developing and promoting a culture of consultation that will build trust and confidence with stakeholders in the scheme.
The purpose of engaging with our stakeholders is to gather information and perspectives that can be used to improve the operation of the scheme such as:
- Increasing the quality of policies and practices;
- Improving successful implementation of initiatives;
- Increasing the chances of voluntary compliance; and
- Increasing the scope for partnerships.
Legislative Review Project
The review of the WA Workers’ Compensation and Injury Management Act 1981 was announced by the Minister for Commerce in March 2009.
In brief, the review aims to:
1. Create an improved structure for the Act, to enhance the readability and consistency of the legislation.
2. Improve the efficiency of the legislation to respond to changing circumstances.
3. Address anomalies which have been identified through past experience in the operation of the Act, including matters raised in the evaluation of the 2005 reforms or by stakeholders.
4. Address specific policy issues, such as age discrimination, as identified by stakeholders.
It should be noted that the review will not undertake a broad ranging examination of the benefits and entitlements contained within the scheme.
