Legislative Review Project

The review of the WA Workers’ Compensation and Injury Management Act 1981 was announced by the Minister for Commerce in March 2009.

In brief, the review aims to:

1. Create an improved structure for the Act, to enhance the readability and consistency of the legislation.

2. Improve the efficiency of the legislation to respond to changing circumstances.

3. Address anomalies which have been identified through past experience in the operation of the Act, including matters raised in the evaluation of the 2005 reforms or by stakeholders.

4. Address specific policy issues, such as age discrimination, as identified by stakeholders.

It should be noted that the review will not undertake a broad ranging examination of the benefits and entitlements contained within the scheme.

Consultation

An External Stakeholder Reference Group has been established to ensure appropriate input to the review process. Membership of the Reference Group has been drawn from the key stakeholder groups involved in the scheme and represents a broad cross section of interests and expertise.

Information about this Reference Group is available here.

A range of other consultation strategies, such as one on one meetings, forums and workshops will be employed as required.
